Hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu with Kraze Travel
The Inca Trail in Peru is an adventure that combines history, nature and physical challenge. The classic 42 km trek leads through Andes highlands, cloud forests and ancient stone paths built by the Incas. It begins in the Sacred Valley and finishes at Inti Punku – the Sun Gate – which frames your first glimpse of Machu Picchu. Permits limit the trail to 500 people per day and only about 200 trekking passes are available , so early planning is essential.
Hikers typically spend four days on the trail, camping and traversing steep stone staircases. The highest point is Warmi Wañusqa (Dead Woman’s Pass) at 4,215 m ; the lowest is Machu Picchu at 2,430 m . The altitude makes proper acclimatisation crucial; spending a few days in Cusco beforehand helps. The route winds past archaeological sites such as Runkurakay and Sayacmarca and through the lush cloud forest of the Andes. Each turn reveals orchids, hummingbirds and occasionally spectacled bears.
Kraze Travel arranges local guides and porters who support sustainable tourism. Unlike mass excursions, our approach focuses on a small group experience, allowing adventurers to connect with the Andean environment and learn about Quechua culture. Permits are obtained in advance and we ensure ethical treatment of porters.
Why go? To walk in the footsteps of the Incas, challenge yourself on a high‑altitude trail and arrive at Machu Picchu at sunrise without the crowds. The sense of accomplishment and the panoramic mountain views make this an unforgettable adventure.
