A private family holiday in Italy is probably one of the most accessible adventures for the Maltese. Italy is extremely close, and a one hour flight will get you to most of the airports on our neighbouring peninsula.
If on the other hand, you are into a more adventurous stay you might want to consider leaving home with your car, driving down to Marsa and catch Virtu Ferries to go to Sicily. From there, you will need to drive 2 hours North, to Messina, where you will catch another ferry to Reggio Calabria, Italy.
There’s a lot of experience and adventures awaiting you and your littles ones in Italy.

History
As Kraze Travel, we are the leading adventure travel agents in Malta, and yet, we still appreciate the vast works of art that Italy has. Incredible museums and monuments are all over the country. There are also some tour agents that can organise tours that are specific for children; that include tables and other gadgets that make the experience more appealing.
By helping your kids to visualize what they are seeing – the volcanic destruction at Pompeii, and the incredible fights that took places at the Colosseum – your kids will probably appreciate where they are a bit more.
Food!
No one can ever write an article about Italy, and not have a section about the food. Whether you are going with friends, as a couple, or as a family – your tastebuds will be grateful for this experience.
The simplicity of Italian dishes always manages to get the best out of each ingredient. The flavours team up to create an incredible food experience. Whether you are going out for dinner, or you’d like to take a bite while on the road, Italian restaurants will surely not disappoint.
Outdoor activities
Now it’s time for some fun, finally. There are plenty of adventures that await you and your little ones, scattered all around Italy.
- Sardinia is home to some of the most worthy outdoor adventures, including horse riding, climbing and caving activities. You can also enjoy some water sports here.
- The Dolomites are a trekker’s paradise. You can walk, trek, run or cycle for miles on end, in the incredible scenery.
- Lago the Garda is a perfect place to just disconnect from a fast-paced life, and enjoy a few days of serenity with your family, in nature. Here is an example of a 4-day itinerary for a family holiday in lake Garda & Gardaland.
